Rising anew from "pralaya"

This is a guest post by Yosee's daughter to keep the comatose blog alive.

Yesterday's newspaper carried the picture of the Krishna Raja Sagara Reservoir, brimming after the recent rains. A sight to behold. And how many times we have beheld the same ! Always with awe and excitement. Especially the great GUSHING that issues out of the opened sluice gates.

The reservoir was worth a visit even when there was dearth of water too. For, that was when we could see the pagodas of some ancient temples that were submerged when the reservoir was made. The ancient walls, pillars and spires lying desolate in the river mud were both picturesque and heart breaking. While the temples of Abu Simbel in Egypt were relocated before the Aswan Dam flooded that area, no such measures were thought of when Sri Visveswaraiah designed this great Dam near Mysore.
But a couple of years ago we were all happy to hear the news that some industrialist had taken up the gargauntan task of dredging the river bed, collecting the parts of the Gopalakrishna Temple that had drowned in the reservoir and rebuilding it on a safer, higher ground on the farther end of the Brindavan Gardens. In the village of Kannambadi.

We visited the place some months ago. Two years since the ambitious project started , most of the monument is complete, with missing parts replaced with new stonework. Its awesome. The size of the temple is imposing. It looks majestic on the bank of the almost sea- like backwaters of the reservoir. All old parts are faithfully retained and cleaned up ,spic and span. Now it is difficult to say which part is new and which original.
Here are some pictures captured in my mobile phone.

The effort of the industrialist is truly laudable. It is good to know that there are few rich people who care about our archeologic remains as well!Nice post and pictures :)

I agree with Dibs.It was news to me that someone thought about getting extricated, from the sediments behind the KRS dam, parts of ancient temples - that had got submerged when the dam across River Cauvery (Kaveri) was built in 1924 - and reconstructing/ relocating the temples as they apparently existed before submergence...
Yosee's daughter, good work indeed! I did not know that this project had been completed to this level. Fabulous work it looks like. Also, your pictures are great, as is your write up. I hope you start your own blog as well. All the best.
